Brothel

Tanus owns a mansion in the city of Newmoon called The House of Pleasures, or simply The House by the locals. Situated in the Upper District of Newmoon, the House is in fact a well-known brothel.

The origin of the House dates back to the destruction of the city of Akken. Back then, Tanus and the other Heroes of the Mist were attempting to liberate Akken from a horde of giants. Unfortunately, due to a series of unfortunate misunderstandings, the Heroes of the Mist were indirectly responsible for letting an army of duergar and drow into the city. The resulting battle annihilated what was once Akken, and most of the denizens of that once proud city were either killed or made slaves. The Heroes of the Mist attempted to save as many people as they could, but in the end only managed to liberate 21 prostitutes and four clerics of Xvim. Bringing the refugees back to Newmoon, Tanus decided to care for the women rather than see them work the streets. He housed the women temporarily in a small manor while he had a stone mansion built in the wealthier part of town of Newmoon. When it was finished, he moved the women into his new home, and formally opened The House of Pleasures for business.

Tanus's experience with Akken taught him a few things, one of which is that manor houses can make effective defensive keeps. With that in mind, Tanus decided to reinforce the outer walls to a thickness of two feet. In addition, the inner walls are stone and one foot thick. The windows are made of several small glass panels bound by bars of steel, thereby offering full visibility but preventing intruders from entering through the windows. A small tunnel system resides beneath the House, connecting it to the thieves guild of Newmoon and offering a means of escape. Tanus has also contracted the services of the thieves guild for "protection", to help ensure that there is no petty theft.

While normally keeping a high profile wherever he goes, Tanus opted to hide the fact that he owns the brothel. In order to do so, Tanus decided to create an alternate persona known as Aidan Sloan to conduct any business regarding the brothel. Even that is little known, and Aidan/Tanus prefers to let most people believe that the house is run and owned by the madame of the House.

The House is a four story tall building. The architectural plans for all the foors and a detailed description of the rooms are available from the menu on the left. Finally, the major non-player characters of the House are also detailed.
