Heroes of the Mist

As told by Tanus.

Previous

That night I sped over to the East Gate and opened it. As the Fire Giants noticed and came rushing towards me, I flew away towards Victor's palace to rejoin the others. Behind me I could see a horde of small creatures rushing into Akken, attacking the giants and letting more of their kind in. I didn't question this, and finally I reached the others as Victor came storming out of the Palace. Our intent to stop him was rather obvious, and he pulled out his great two-handed sword. Aerin immediately engaged him and managed to get in a few hits before Victor's sword came down and almost cleaved her in two. Alannon approached Victor and told him not to worry, for he would rally to his defense. He then cast a spell, and turned towards Victor and touched him in the chest. The Disintegrate spell crackled forth from Alannon's hands and hit Victor, who now had a huge gaping hole where his torso should have been. Shock, then finally understanding crossed Victor's face. As he began to stumble to the ground, he looked at me and spoke in what sounded like Old Elvish. We learned later that what he said could be roughly translated to "I wish for you to regain your true nature".

As he finished speaking those final words, I began to shift form and grow in height. My hide and snout disappeared and instead I grew long hair and vestigal faerie wings. I was now about twenty-five feet in height, and looked like a giant faerie creature of some kind. No longer caring about the Geas, I turned to Alannon and knew exactly what to do. So did the rest of the party, and soon he lay dead at our feet. I changed formed one more time, but this time returned to my original form, that of an elf.

Looking around, it began to dawn on us that an army of drow and and an army of duergar were ransacking and torching the city of Akken. I have no idea exactly what deal Feldon made with the deep dwarves, but I was pretty sure that he got double-crossed somewhere. We fled away from the palace and began to look for a place where we could make a final stand. After finding a suitable mansion, we decided to first save as many people of Akken as we could. Splitting up into smaller groups, we fanned out and went from house to house. At one of the inns, Feldon found several of his followers, while Aerin uncovered twenty whores who worked in a nearby brothel. Feldon agreed to lead them back to the mansion, while Aerin took off towards the Thieves' Guild. Despite their best efforts to be quiet about it, Feldon and the people he was escorting were spotted by a force of duergar. Rather than engage them directly, the duergar called for help and shadowed Feldon as he fled back to the mansion. We were soon all back at the mansion, with a growing number of duergar and drow outside. Aerin began to quickly transport as many people as she could into the Shadow plane, while the rest of us did our best to hold them off.

In the end, our small group managed to safely escape to the Shadow plane. However, the only people of Akken that we were able to save were twenty-one sluts and four of Feldon's followers. We camped out for a while, and during the day went back to Akken to see if we couldn't find anyone left alive. Avielle and some others decided to go raid a mage's tower, which turned out to be a very bad idea. While they did find some magical potions and scrolls, Aerin was permanently Confused and Feldon read a Symbol of Death. Fortunately, I was able to dispel the Confusion, and Aerin was then able to cast Raise Dead and bring Feldon back to life. We also managed to capture a drow soldier. We brought him back to Newmoon, and with Krylar's help we learned that they planned to attack Galendale next.

Loht I'll just summarize the rest, since I'm still trying to understand what's happened to me. We left for Galendale, the kingdom of the elves, and managed to talk to the Elf Queen. While she refused to believe that they were in any danger, we did manage to convince the Spells-Major Lysanthir to ready his forces to the South of the kingdom. It was also suggested that we travel to the Red Mountain Monastery and ask the Pavraska of Knowledge for more info on the imminent attack. After passing several tests, we were granted the answer to three questions. Other than the location and time of the imminent attack, we were also told why the drow are attacking Galendale. Apparently they seek to master High Elven Magic, and believe that with the Selu'kiira gem that they will be able to unravel its mysteries. We were teleported back to Galendale, which was now under attack. We fought bravely and managed to reach Runemaster Laeroth, who is the current possessor of the Selu'kiira gem. Lolth, the goddess of the drow, entered the field of battle and it looked hopeless for us until Shar's avatar came to our defense. For whatever reasons that are known only to her, she decided to intervene and stop Lolth directly. Rather than just stand by, we decided to help Shar in her battle and managed to help her defeat Lolth. However, in doing so we left the Runemaster undefended and he was slain. His corpse and the Selu'kiira gem were immediately wisked away, and the drow left the battle field. With only the duergar left, the elves of Galendale rallied and managed to throw them out of their forests.

Understandably, we left Galendale immediately to go retrieve the gem. In the end, with the help of a Quest spell granted from Xvim (we think) and a Wand of Negation, Feldon managed to cave in a drow city. To our suprise, the drow had in their possession not one but three Selu'kiira gems. I managed to defeat one of the drow Runemasters, while the party finished off the other two. Isolated from the others and with drow closing in, I decided to risk fate. I read the last page of the Alcaister, a magic spellbook, and a planar portal opened before me. I threw myself in. Imagine my surprise when I ended up in Shar's realm and at her feet. She was rather amused about the whole thing and decided to offer me a deal. If I agreed to wield the Selu'kiira gem, she would let me leave her palace alive. Sounded like a win-win situation for me, so I agreed. After a rather close inner struggle, the gem accepted me. Shar then leaned over and kissed me, and I was sent back to the Prime Material Plane.

Starfall So that's where it now stands. I've been marked by Shar's kiss, meaning that when I die my soul will be hers. And the elves of Galendale are not too pleased that their Selu'kiira gem now resides inside me, especially since I have no desire to spend the rest of my life working for their nation. Since then I've been busy setting up a brothel for all those whores that we saved from Akken. Aerin and Avielle are building a Thieve's Guild in Newmoon, and I believe Feldon is creating a Temple to Xvim somewhere East of the Chasm. Weylyn has been acting really odd lately, but from what I understand it's been making others of its kind. I haven't seen Theris, Paul, or Aldar in a while so I have no idea what they've been up to. Kara, crazy psycho woman that she is, has decided to hang out with me for a while, so she's now my Madame until I find someone else to run the brothel. Which reminds me, I forgot to mention Sharon. She's a half-elf who I met after the Akken incident, and who I later found out is my daughter. I only vaguely remember her mother, as it was over twenty years ago on my 100th anniversary. Sharon's a cutie, but she sure is weird at times.
