Background: Coran is a happy go-lucky kind of guy who has one
serious weakness: water. Maybe it was because his mother loved to give
him baths, or perhaps because he was made to learn how to swim at an early
age, or maybe it was that encounter with the water folk. Regardless, the
touch (or should I say caress) of water on his skin is a definate turn-on.
His inability to cast spells while in contact with water is because he is
simply too distracted to do anything but enjoy it. Likewise, since water
is the source of his pleasure, it should come as no surprise that when his
thoughts turn to death and destruction he thinks of fire.
This dichotomy is evident in everything he does. He sincerly believes
that everyone is made of opposing forces that are made to complement each
other; a sort of ying and yang philosophy. His manner and attitude, while
always pleasant, reflect this as well. He seeks pleasure and vices of all
kinds, and yet is also studious in his skills. He has picked up a talent
for musical instruments and singing, and often uses these skills to
emulate a bard or just to gain favor with the ladies.
Both of his parents are still alive, and live in xxxx. They are merchants
of a sort, providing rare services and fulfilling the needs of their
customers. They've been called brokers, fencers, match-makers, and at
times bounty-hunters, though they always try to avoid getting directly
involved. In his short life, Coran has seen quite a bit, some of which
he'd rather sooner not see again. Knowing the evil that lurks in some
people's hearts makes kindness seem that much sweeter.
At a young age he was apprenticed to the mage Farin, partly because his
parents couldn't have him at home meddling with their affairs, and partly
because they know all too well the price that magic commands. He was a
very apt pupil, and took to his studies with diligence. His drive and
motivation came not so much from the lure of power but rather from
unadulterated lust, for he quickly realized how magic could fulfill
his needs. He is a pleasure seeker above all.
He's currently decided to strike out on his own and join a group of
adventurers. He's finished his studies and learnt as much as Farin could
teach him, and has decided to seek out further knowledge. Of course if he
were to gain fame and recognition in the process, it wouldn't hurt
either.
