What if Alexander the Great hadn't killed his general in that drunken brawl?

Let's assume Cleitus the Black didn't get into a fight with Alexander, and the next day takes possession of Bactria with a promise of Sogdria much later. During that fateful night Cleitus the Black was tasked with taking 16,000 second-rate Greek mercenaries to hunt down and tame the steppe nomads in the North (no wonder he was grumpy!), taking him out of the picture for a while.

Cleitus leaves you, his heir, as acting satrap (regent) of Bactria in his stead. You are 16 years old, the same age Alexander was in a similar situation. There is much that needs to be done in Bactria if you are to survive!

Challenges

  • The Greeks hate living in Bactria (and in Persia in general). Some of them were exiled here.
  • The Greeks hate the indigenous Persian people.
  • You have 5 years of relative peace (just that one mutiny) before Alexander dies.
    • At that time you acquire Sogdia, to the North, which is also an important trade center.
    • Another Greek settler insurrection occurs at this time as well, in the summer of BC 323.
    • Soon after that infighting between Alexander's generals occurs.
    • The Seleucid Empire (founded by one of Alexander's previous generals) eventually claims the region.
  • In turn the local Greek ruler of Bactria rebels from the Seleucid Empire, creating the Greco-Bactrian empire.
    • But they get invaded by a mongol horde and that marks the end of Hellenistic rulership for good!
